Chinese Skullcap

Chinese Skullroot (Scutellaria baicalensis) is an herb native to East Asia traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine. The active components of Chinese Skullroot have been found to help reduce blood glucose levels and improve insulin sensitivity.

Baicalein and baicalin are 2 of several flavonoids found in skullroot. In animal models, baicalein has demonstrated the ability to fight against diabetes by promoting existing beta cell function. It does this by protecting mitochondria within the beta cells. Mitochondrial health is a deciding factor in apoptosis (programmed cell death).

Baicalin has the pharmacological effects of detoxification, anti-allergy, immune regulation and anti-tumor activity. Besides, baicalin has also been proven to have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, and other effects. Baicalin can also inhibit the progress of diabetic nephropathy through a variety of ways.
